The workshop facilitation guide that ends in decisions
Every workshop is a system you can design. The playbook shows you the path – and the building blocks for every step on it.
A playbook you can use tomorrow
Clear, visual pages: one idea per page, big visuals, little text. Every activity comes with a worked example – so you see what it looks like on the wall.

Quick start
Your first workshop in six steps – one activity per stage, all from the book.

The Workshop Canvas
Design any workshop on one page: one sticky note per activity, stage by stage.

60+ activity cards
How it works, what you get, what it is best for – and a tip from practice.

What it looks like
A worked example for every activity – plus a blank template to use right away.
Six stages from challenge to outcome
Before the workshop, four stages in the room, after the workshop. Each stage has a guiding question – and the activities that answer it.

Eight roles of a great facilitator
Facilitate means: make it possible – for the whole group. From guardian of the process to keeper of time and energy, the playbook shows what each role looks like in practice.

The whole toolbox on one page – and calm answers when it gets tricky
More than 60 activities sorted by phase, so you combine what fits. And the chapter every facilitator needs one day: difficult participants.

Built from more than 1.000 workshops
Joern Steinz has facilitated workshops since 2014 – strategy days, leadership offsites, innovation sprints and team workshops. The playbook is what works in a business context: structure you can repeat, results you can measure.
A system, not a collection
Six stages and one canvas give every workshop a path. The activities are the building blocks you choose for it.
Ready to use
Every activity: how it works, what you get, what it is best for, a tip from practice, an example and a template.

Questions about the playbook
Who is The Workshop Playbook for?
For everyone who runs workshops as part of the job: team leads, managers, consultants and internal facilitators. You do not need to be a professional facilitator – the playbook gives you the structure.
What exactly do I get?
The Workshop Playbook as a PDF – more than 200 pages, six stages, more than 60 activities – each with how it works, a worked example and a blank template – plus chapters on the facilitator’s role, the right medium, online and hybrid workshops and difficult participants – plus open access to the monthly live calls with Joern.
Can I use the templates in my own workshops?
Yes. The templates are made for exactly that: project them, print them as posters or rebuild them on your online board.
Does it work for online and hybrid workshops?
Yes. A dedicated page shows how to run every stage online – one board for everything, small breakout groups and visible timeboxes.
How do I get the book?
Right after booking, Eventbrite sends you an email with the download link to the PDF – and the link to the monthly live calls. You can start reading straight away.
What happens in the monthly calls?
One hour online with Joern: a quick run-through of the book, your questions and an exchange with fellow facilitators. Join as many calls as you like – they come with your ticket.
When are the calls?
Once a month, online and in English. You find the dates on Eventbrite – one hour each, with plenty of time for your questions.
Can I practise the methods live?
Yes – in the two-day facilitation training in Hamburg, held in German, next on 2 and 3 November 2026. For your team we also run it as an inhouse training in English or German.
I am new to facilitation. Where do I start?
With the quick start at the front of the book: your first workshop in six steps – one activity per stage, from the workshop brief to the results summary.
Can you run the workshop for us – or train our team?
Yes. Through SkillDay, Joern and his team run facilitation trainings and facilitate workshops, strategy days and leadership offsites. Get in touch at skillday.com.
